I've heard of people doing anti inflammatory diets that can help with the inflammation and pain. Has anyone tried that, if so did it help? Also what are some foods to avoid and ones too eat?
I changed my eating to fight inflammation. I had a lot of swelling in my legs, ankles, and feet daily. I started eating much fewer carbs and the swelling has improved tremendously and I lost weight. My flares are more scarce too. Of course Im in one now after not having one for months. But it could be due to my having stopped taking my Plaquenil since the diet was working so well. But now I see that my diet and the therapy gives me much better results together.
I know friends on AIP diets that are very restrictive. I know others who have gone vegan. Both say the diets have helped them but you have to be very disciplined.
Personally I cut out gluten (which helped me gastrointestinally), avoid white flour and processed foods, I also eliminate sugar as much as possible and avoid alcohol. I read somewhere that a Mediterranean style diet is a healthy choice.
Red meat has been completely eliminated from my diet. I do feel a difference with my stomach issues, but is said to also help with inflammation.
I am gluten free, soy free, and I avoid processed foods, low sugar, and organic. It helps a lot.
My internist recommended the fodmap diet in addition to all the restrictions I already follow. I was not happy. π. I did cut out honey though...lol. I guess I have to approach it very slowly. It felt like a gut punch! Pardon the pun...lol! π. I feel like I need to have some bad habits, don't I? π
