Head Sores

Head Sores

I’m not sure if this is where I should ask this but does anyone else experience sores on their scalp? I’m newly diagnosed and still trying to piece together this weird puzzle. I don’t know if it’s the lupus or the meds (Plaquenil & prednisone)

Hi there, I'm glad I found your post. I'm new to the site and actually came across it while looking for answers to my scalp sores. I've been on a journey to a diagnosis for a few years now and just a few weeks ago got a pretty definitive lupus diagnosis. I have actually had scalp sores since I was a kid long before I had any other symptoms of anything. They have worsened over time and are particularly numerous at the moment. They are red open sores with some scaley dry skin surrounding them, they eventually scab over but the scabs get knocked off just brushing/washing my hair or running my fingers through my hair. They are tender to touch, and during one particularly bad episode it caused glands that i didn't even know were there to majorly swell near the back/base of my skull. I've just started planquenil about 3 weeks ago but wanted to find out if they are indeed lupus related. My doctor suggested a biopsy which i read horror stories of and chickened out... anyone on here had a scalp biopsy?

I will stay posted as well of anyone has any remedies. A short course of prednisone tends to help. Trying to avoid that right now and taking a lot of turmeric for it's anti-inflammatory properties but no changes yet. Best of luck to you!!

I have the same thing, my gave me clobetasol 0.05 solution to apply to my scale twice daily. It seems to work on but leaves your hair looking a mess.

The sores are caused by the Lupus, I got diagnosed in October and ever since then my scalp has been sensitive, the medication will help, I'm taking Prednisone but honestly there is nothing much you can do about it, or you can go bald and put on cortisteroid creams, they usually for hives and rashes people usually get from Lupus
