For those on Plaquenil, without lupus related organ damage/serious symptoms, what is your dosage? Does it follow the "generally prescribed at a daily dose of 6.5 milligrams (or less) per kilogram of body weight."? I weigh 138, and am on 300mg/day, about 4.6mg/kg. When i had a bad skin reaction to the sun last week, I reached out to my cousin who is a dermatologist, and he said my dosage seems too low. Only started on Plaquenil about 2 months ago. I see my rheumatologist tomorrow. Thanks!
Thanks all. Saw my rheumatologist today, and she explained the updated guidelines are that dosage does not exceed 5mg/kg, which is shown to have fewer eye side effects than the previous guidelines of up to 6.5mg/kg, so sounds like I'm on the correct dose.
Plaquenil helps some of the inflammation problems and organ damage. I use Neurontin for nerve pain issues you have to attempt to get right dose as a side effect is drowsiness. I didn't need skin biopsy mine was diagnosed by symptoms and having autoimmune disorder. Twitching, itching is the worse especially at night. Neurontin helps with some of the nerve issues.
I'm on 200 mg twice daily and don't have severe symptoms of asthma, but have white fiber (small) neuropathy . I have fatigue (don't we all) and inflammation. I'm 142 lbs. and almost 60 years old.
They go by your weight when you are being treated for malaria or as a preventative of malaria if you are going to a country that is know for malaria and it’s for short term use at that dosage!!!
To treat lupus it’s a lower dose because you will be on it long term.
It is prescribed to us to keep lupus from attacking our organs!!
Acadia, neuropathy is one of my major problems. Has the plaquenil helped? Did you have the skin biopsy done to confirm the neuropathy?
