I believe there are also height/weight requirements regarding plaquenil dosage. I was told by my rheumatologist that because I am short and petite, my dosage is smaller. I'm taking 200mg once a day.

Definite height and weight requirements. I'm very short and tiny so I'm maxed out at 300mg/day. I used to take it in the mornin but found switching to night is better for the stomach issues. And just I'm already taking lots of pills during the day as is.

Both my son and I both take 400 mg per day. It can affect your stomach at first so perhaps your dr just wants to start you off slow and increase if necessary. It can also affect your eyes so depending on your other health issues that may be something he or she took into consideration as well. Hope you start to,feel better (((hugs)).

Plaquenil is prescribed as a disease-modifier, in other words, to decrease pain, decrease swelling, and prevent joint damage and disability. On plaquenil you may begin to notice improvement after one or two months. It can take up to six months before full benefits of plaquenil are realized.
