Hi guys I’m new to this. I have a question how do I know if I have the brand name plaquenil or the generic?I’ve been reading that the brand name help better with less side effects is that true? My pill bottle say brand name: plaquenil and at the top of it it say hydroxychloroquine and it’s a white oblong shaped tablet with imprinted with ac 384 on the front of the pill.
Go to drugs.com and they will show you pictures of the pills you are prescribed and also offer side effect and ingredient information.
I've always taken the generic. I know the name brand company that makes plaquenil was mentioned on the news as Sanofi. Any other manufacturer would be a generic. I think they may put the typical brand name on the pharmacy papers so that there is no confusion as to what the medicine is. It lets you know what it's generic for sometimes. You can also look up the pill online and see what company makes the pill by searching the description of the pill with the numbers on it. I've personally never had any problems taking the generic, and I've had different manufacturers of the generic with no increase in symptoms or side effects. I guess it depends on the person. My insurance pays for generics a lot better than name brand medicine, so it's probably the best choice for me. Some people do prefer the name brand, but I've heard it's for more people who had stomach side effects.
I take name brand and mine is a bone-shaped pill that says "plaquenil" on it.
