San Francisco, CA

Im trying to find out where the best place to live with Lupus and RA. As I have Lupus SLE and my Mom has RA. My dad is wanting to move. However, I'm insisting we go to somewhere that will be therapeutic for the both of us.

I did tell her that if I can't fine a place that is therapeutic for me. Then I will be staying where Im at.

Interesting question! I don't have an answer, but some thoughts perhaps to go along with the place. 1. Think about what you can and can't do now, and ask yourself if each will be easier or harder, and ask for each of the places you are considering. 2. Be aware of what kind of person you are! Are you an outdoor type? Do you love gardening, hiking, biking, etc -- even though with lupus you often can't? Or are you a homebody? Are you an artist, writer, or musician?
Can you create at home, and don't miss the outdoors? Well, no matter where you go, you'll want to participate in the sorts of things you like doing. Again, for each place you are considering, how does WHO YOU ARE, fundamentally, play into whether it is affected by the geographic location? 3. How much of a support system do you have where you are now? Are there friends who visit you when you're flaring? Could they be counted on to bring your medications from the drugstore, or take you to a hospital when needed? Will you have anyone in any of the places under consideration, who would take the place of people you already have? 4. And this is the hardest thing -- does your dad want to move for HIS reasons, and is he considerate of your and your mother's special needs? If he isn't, then maybe you and your mom should make your own plans! Just a thought! (However, if he's a dear and always considerate, then involve him in your thinking, and your questions, and your findings.)
