I had an EGD and colonoscopy done this morning. Can someone help me interpret the findings please?? What does "GEJ at 39 cm" mean?? After I woke from sedation and they said there wasn't anything wrong I was a hysterical sobbing mess so much so they gave me 1 mg of ativan through my IV. I know for a fact that something is wrong bc there is no way I have this many symptoms that completely distupt my daily life and I'm so sick all the time. How can nothing be wrong with me and the worst part of it… read more

The GEJ is your Gastroesophageal junction which is the area between your distal esophagus and stomach. They seen it at 39cm from your mouth They took random biopsies to look for a bacteria called H-pylori and probably celiac. Which is normal procedures. H pylori can cause so many GI symptoms. If it is positive you will be treated for it. I do work for a Gastroenteroligist in Canada. If you need anything else I would be glad to help.

What symptoms are you having? I’ve had a few of these and when I had it for swallowing problems, severe esophagus pain it came back normal. I was shocked, as I couldn’t eat (barley a protein shake a day)for like three or four months at that time and lost a lot of weight and was malnourished. I have an esophagus Mobility disorder I still have to chew water to swallow and it was a long road. They had to do a special test to see that my esophagus is not moving correctly and the coordination is off. They were surprised there was a problem and I wasn’t just crazy even though I lost 50lbs with out trying. I had to beg for help from my stomach dr. I now see a specialist because that’s the only person who can treat esophagus problems. Believe me when I say I get how scary and frustrating it is, it really took a toll on my mental and physical health.

I hope they can figure it out soon. Keep pushing for it. They typically cant see things right away. Unfortunately idk how to interpret that but like @A MyLupusTeam Member i had to have a few of those plus other studies and a very uncomfortable procedure to determine what was going on with my esophagus because I have trouble swallowing too. I too have a motility disorder. Hang in there

I feel your pain ladies I’ve been to the ER/Urgent Care like 4 times in the last month thinking it’s heart issues and they keep saying it’s GI issues. Chest pains, severe heartburn, excessive burping, excessive gas and bloating. I had an endoscopy and rescheduled it because I’m scared of the anesthesia sadly (haven’t ever had to have any) but I’ve been in pure agony. I’ve lost at least 10 pounds in the last month from not being able to eat or it coming out the other end. I’m so scared of the pains I’m experiencing that I just choose not to eat or barely have an appetite! This lupus stuff is insane.
