I just did recent bloodwork with a new rheum. My conpliment component c1q was low. I recently increased plaquenil from 200 to 400 mg daily due to skin inflammation. This new doc told me tgat he was surprised my previous doc kept me at 200mg Since that is too low of a dose and wont do anything. Will the C1Q go back to normal and inflannation level subside with increase in meds? Prednsone does nothing for me. I feel like i need sonerhing else.

Oh my how is taking that dose of prednisone? I've been on only 2mgs.now for well since 2007 started at only 25mgs. just can't get off because I flare up instantly in 4 days,so I'm guessing I'm on this for life.Hope you feel better soon.😊

Oh, my surgery went very well. We are not sure whether I’m developing a post-op infection or spitting a stitch though, so I’m off Lupus meds again and on an antibiotic. Grrr…It’s like restarting from square one every time I have to go off and then start again…I feel your frustration loud and clear.

According to the MayoClinic the Compliment c1q is completed to identify immune defiency and congenital disorders. They state that a low c1q could point towards an immune complex disease such as Lupus. 200 mg is what is considered a “maintenance” dose for someone with SLE. This would be for someone who is stable and to help prevent a recurrence of symptoms. In other words, they would be in remission at the time. 400 mg is used for those in the active phase to try to protect the organs and prevent flares.
Reference ranges for the c1q are 12-22 mg/dL.
In my very humble opinion, plaquenil alone did not help my activity. I had to start on two other medications, and I’m still having issues, but this is because I had to stop for surgery. It’s like starting all over again.
Hope this helps. Sorry for the delay!
