Anyone else taking methotrexate and hydroxychloroquine? My rheumatologist wants to start me on methotrexate, a little nervous about this. I’ve been on hydroxychloroquine for about 20 years.
I've been on it for many years, it's a great drug for lupus. I was off it for about 6 weeks. I was thinking I needed my knee replaced it hurt so bad, started the Methotrexate again and within a week my knee was good as new. I won't ever not take it again. I seriously hadn't realized how well it worked until I didn't have it. I inject mine because I have stomach problems and I find it works so much better. I suggest you give it a try but remember you won't get instant results, just give it some time while you and your doctor find your proper dose.
I have been on Plaquenil for 2 years and started the injectable methotrexate in January. The injectable does not cause as many GI symptoms so I opted for that. It is once a week. I have a bit of a hangover the 12-18 hours after but it has been a GREAT drug for me. no more joint pain, my hands feel normal again after many years. You need to give it 3-4 months to work AND just as long to get used to and ride out the side effects. They definitely subside with time if they aren't too bad and you can just power through. Some people don't tolerate it at all but the side effects I get for a day are worth feeling so much better overall.
I don't take methotrexate, but you can do a search here, cause I think I saw similar questions to yours before. Hugs
I do I take methotrexate every Friday. The first 72 hours are rough. I take Plaquenil twice a day. I also take Humira. The first 72 hours I am nauseous and weak. Since I have started the methotrexate. I have noticed my calves hurt really bad. This also started like a year after me taking it.
Wow. Thanks for your response. I appreciate hearing the positive results.
