Does anyone have their throat swell up and makes it feel like there’s a lump in your throat. It makes it hard to breathe at night. If so what do you do for it??

I had multiple bouts of angioedema when I was first getting diagnosed (fortunately it stopped after starting treatment), and swelling of the lymph nodes is pretty common with autoimmune. Honestly, if it's making it difficult to breathe, talk to your rheumatologist, and possibly an allergist. Could be a new allergy, could be immune system, could be something else. Definitely talk to your doctor.

Agree, please talk with your doctor. It can be something as simple as acid reflux or post-nasal drip, which are both aggravated by lying down and can give you a lump in the throat sensation.

Swelling in the throat for people with lupus can be caused by several factors:

- Swollen Lymph Nodes: Lupus can cause lymph nodes to swell, particularly during flares. Swollen lymph nodes in the neck can create pressure, making it feel like you can't breathe.
- Thyroid Nodules: Lupus may affect the thyroid, causing nodules that can lead to a choking sensation.
- Anxiety and Stress: Anxiety, common in lupus patients, can cause a lump-in-the-throat feeling.
- Reflux and Other Issues: Conditions like acid reflux or GERD can also cause throat tightness.

Always consult your doctor to pinpoint the exact cause and get appropriate treatment.

I recently had anaphylaxis after eating something cooked with shellfish. The allergic reaction came on slowly and by the time I got to ER, my throat had tightened so much I could barely talk but I was able to say I think I had anaphylaxis so they quickly went into emergency mode and gave me a shot that literally shut down my whole body bc they did not want the swelling in my throat to increase to the point where I stopped breathing altogether. So yes, most of these sites I researched say the same. Anytime there’s danger of cutting off your airways, it’s BETTER SAFE THAN SORRY!l

I know you’re going through a difficult time so I hope this helps. I will be praying to God for complete healing for you!
