Did any of you guys get it on the first try. I feel like I’ve handed over every private thing on my medical and psychological health. I’m angry and resentful bc I paid in to this system for years.

@A MyLupusTeam Member I feel your frustration. Filing for disability is very stressful for us and can makes us sicker. Because I had lupus cerebritis, I also had to have psychological evaluations. They also had me see one twice more during my reviews every few years. When I moved out of state my rheumatologist gave me my records which included my evaluation notes. I suggest you ask your doctor about the results after you are approved. You have a right to know what they say about you.

It is a shame that disability attorneys get so much from your back pay. I hope that the attorney makes it worth their cut and that you will be approved very soon. God's got you.

I was approved after denial in 1989. With lupus or any autoimmune disease it's very rare to be approved on the first try.

Unfortunately, getting on disability is rather difficult. Each state has their own type of state disability (some states do not have any type of disability). Finding out if your state has a state disability program may help while you wait to hear about social security disability insurance. California has a state disability program that will pay you for 52 weeks. Not sure what your state offers. Getting on social security disability is hard. One figure that I heard a long time ago was about 14% get on social security the first time. There are certain exceptions to that. If someone is on dialysis or had Lou Gehrig’s disease, they automatically get on the first time. One thing that may help you is having a good relationship with your doctor. He can write a good report about you showing why you need to be on disability. Also, there are lawyers that specialize on helping ones to get on social security disability. The only draw back is, when you finally get on disability (which can take a while), social security will back pay you from the time you applied, you lawyer will take a portion of that back pay as payment for their services. If your state has a disability program and you qualify, if you get on social security the first time, you can be on both state and federal disability programs. You federal disability will be reduced a little bit until your state disability expires.
