This dosing markedly reduces the risk of retinal/eye toxicity and probably other side effects. You can calculate this by taking your body weight in pounds, dividing it by 2.2, and multiplying by five. This number is the maximum daily dose in mg of HCQ that ophthalmologists recommend for eye safety.
Please discuss this with your rheumatologist if you're on a larger dose, and don't change it on your own. I've noticed some of us are taking too much and wanted to remind everyone.

@Kham2--I'd discuss it with your rheumatologist and ophthalmologist, Kham.
I used to go into flare-ups if I tried to go below 5 mgs of prednisone. For the last couple of years I did well on 2.5 mg. With Benlysta I was able to stop taking it completely. Everyone has a different experience with Prednisone. I hope that you will feel better soon.
@A MyLupusTeam Member I did not know this. I take 200mg BID, but according to your info I should be 300 mg total daily. I see my dr next Monday.
@JoyFargo--You may want to talk with your doctor about whether you need a slower taper of the dose. If you've been on it a long time, your body needs more time to adjust.
