I buy these 1/4 oz frozen beef patties at Costco. By the time I eat it on a bun with a slice of cheese, I am like a bloated balloon! Then I get gas on top of it. This just started happening within a couple of years. I have had Lupus for about 20 yrs.

Members living with SLE connected over the question of struggling to digest meat, with many sharing that they have naturally moved away from red meat and found chicken, fish, turkey, and plant-based options like beans much easier on their stomachs. Several members offered helpful strategies, including taking daily probiotics to reduce gas and bloating, eating meat in smaller portions or finely ground form, and using sauces like cranberry or BBQ to make chewier meats more manageable. A recurring theme was that age and lupus together may shift what the body can tolerate, and many encouraged checking whether gluten or bread could also be a trigger worth exploring with a doctor or nutritionist.

I find I do not eat meat hardly ever. I would be fine not eating it at all as I rarely eat it and if I do it is chicken. I find that the older I get the more my body stomach does not like as much as it used to when I was younger so not sure if it is my Lupus SLE or my age or a combination of the two.

I believe if you stay away from red meat you will have less of a problem. Give it a try! Hopefully it will work for you. 🙏😊♥️

I can eat loose ground beef in a casserole or soup, but eat minimal amounts. Beef that is in big pieces I have trouble digesting.

I like soft chewy things to eat too Nanro. So mostly I have PB, ham, bologna or chicken sandwiches. I HAVE to finish up this batch of frozen hamburgers as they were SO expensive, but then I think I will refrain from beef entirely.
