Some people may have symptoms that match multiple connective tissue conditions at once, making it challenging for doctors to provide a specific diagnosis. Up to 25% of people with connective tissue disease symptoms receive what's called an "undifferentiated" diagnosis. This doesn't mean doctors don't understand what's happening - it simply means the symptoms don't fit clearly into one specific category.
Many MyLupusTeam members share experiences of having overlapping symptoms, with some receiving diagnoses that their doctors adjust over time as symptoms evolve or become clearer.
