nic apples, eating lots of cooked vegetables with ground/whole caraway seeds, caraway anisseed tea, could it be another autoimmune disease of my guts? I was told lupus usually only attacks the GI tract of children but I'm wondering if I'm an exception. I have Systemic Lupus Erythematosus Sjogrens Disease, Celiacs Disease, Raynauds, Antiphospholipidsyndrome, Factor 5 Leiden Mutation etc

I too have GI issues, the last two weeks in fact it has been particularly revved up. My rheumy passed me on to a GI doctor for last few years and they did colonoscopies and could not find anything. This told me it was likely inflammation due to my lupus and I found that taking 5mg. of prednisone for a couple days cleared things up. I am due for another colonoscopy but have put it off. Hoping to do the cologuard route instead. I do take probiotics everyday and try to eat fiberous foods. Oatmeal, broccoli , beans.... I drink a green sencha tea every morning and that helps calm my stomach too. Consistency is key I have found. I truly hope you find some help and they can get ya feeling better fast.💜

Lupus can indeed affect the digestive system in adults through several mechanisms. It can cause inflammation in different parts of the body including:

- Peritonitis (inflammation of the abdominal lining)
- Vasculitis (inflammation of intestinal blood vessels)
- Lupus enteritis (inflammation of the bowel wall)
- Pancreatitis (inflammation of the pancreas) Given your celiac disease diagnosis, it's important to note that people with lupus may have additional sensitivity to gluten (nonceliac gluten sensitivity). If you haven't already, tracking your symptoms while temporarily eliminating certain foods under the guidance of a registered dietitian nutritionist could help identify triggers.

It's crucial to share these GI symptoms with your healthcare provider as they can determine if you need additional testing, medication adjustments, or other treatments to address the root cause of your symptoms.
