Weight management with lupus can be complex due to several factors:

1. Medications like prednisone can cause increased appetite and water retention
2. Kidney issues (lupus nephritis) may lead to fluid retention and swelling
3. Inflammation from lupus itself can affect weight

Even with regular exercise, these factors may make weight loss challenging. Here are some helpful tips:

1. Work with your doctor to review your medications and their effects on weight
2. Consider consulting a nutritionist for a diet plan that accounts for lupus
3. Monitor salt intake, especially if you have kidney involvement
4. Continue exercising as it helps with muscle strength and flexibility
5. Be patient with yourself - focus on overall health improvements rather than just the scale

If you experience sudden weight gain, contact your doctor immediately as it could indicate kidney complications.

Going to a plant-based diet or at least markedly increasing the intake of plant foods really helps! Great points about steroids and having thyroid blood tests, too.
