Yes, burning and itching sensations in the face are common experiences for people with lupus. Many MyLupusTeam members report feeling like their face is "on fire" or experiencing burning sensations in their cheekbones, even without visible rashes. These symptoms can occur with or without skin discoloration.

Common triggers for facial burning and itching in lupus include:
• Systemic inflammation
• Sun or UV light exposure (photosensitivity)
• Hot showers
• Lupus flares
• Certain medications, particularly steroids These sensations may be related to cutaneous lupus erythematosus, which affects the skin, or could be caused by peripheral neuropathy - nerve damage due to inflammation triggered by the immune system. If you're experiencing these symptoms, it's important to discuss them with your doctor, especially if they're accompanied by skin discoloration or getting more frequent.

It depends if your in the sun flare up does show on the skin or a flare up sometimes it shows, like rashes or blotches. Tell your doc sun screen or a good dermatologist. Everybody body reacts differently always great to have more than one opinion.

If you are taking plaqunil/hydroxychloriquin you shouldn't be in the sun unless covered. You become nauseas and because lupus causes dryness, the sun makes it worse and yes that's why you are itching more than usual. I know a lot of people love tanning, whether tanning beds or real sun it's not good for a person with Lupus.
