I have clinical small cell neuropathy because of the symptoms (also symptoms of my SLE). I got off the gabapentin by going to magnesium with my B12. I think it works better.

While gabapentin can be effective for managing lupus-related nerve pain, it's important to understand both its benefits and risks. Many MyLupusTeam members report positive experiences with pain relief and improved sleep when taking gabapentin.

However, some people do experience side effects, which can include:
• Drowsiness and dizziness
• Mood swings
• Vision problems
• Weight gain
• Breathing problems (especially in those over 65)
• Liver and kidney issues Trust your neurologist's assessment of your condition. Each person's experience with lupus and gabapentin can be different. If you decide to try gabapentin, your doctor will likely start with a low dose and gradually increase it if needed to minimize side effects. Always discuss any concerns or new symptoms with your healthcare provider, and inform them of all medications you're taking to avoid potentially dangerous interactions.

I have taken it for years without any negative side effects other than just feeling relaxed or tired. I take it a hour before bedtime as suggested by my rheumatologist.
My doc recommended 300 -400 mgs. I recently had a hip replacement and I was prescribed 100 mgs x3 daily for nerve pain and I only needed 1 per day and it worked. I was having severe nerve pain and it did the trick. It might be worth trying.

I've been taking Gabapentin officially for a couple months now and even when I was in the hospital it did and does indeed help manage my neuropathy (I suffer from it constantly in my feet especially my toes and through out most days it travels up my legs or likes to live between my shoulder blades on my back) I've never noticed any side effects thankfully and it's been not only a life saver for me but also my mom who has fibromyalgia.
