Unfortunately I’m on both and it doesn’t help. I want to cry everyone I wash my hair. I need to accept that I may become bald in the near future.

My Dr. put me on methotrexate and said that can cause hair thinning so she also added folic acid to try and prevent that. So far, so good.

Hair loss can be caused by lupus itself or by certain medications used to treat lupus. The first step is to talk with your rheumatologist to determine the exact cause and potentially adjust your treatment plan if medications are contributing to the hair loss.

Here are several ways to help prevent and manage hair loss:

• Use gentle hair products like baby shampoo
• Avoid chemical treatments and heat styling
• Skip tight hairstyles like buns or braids
• Protect your scalp from sun exposure
• Let hair dry naturally instead of blow-drying Your doctor may want to perform tests to determine the cause, including:
• A hair pull test to check shedding amount
• Blood tests to check for underlying factors
• A scalp biopsy if needed

Important: Don't start any over-the-counter hair loss treatments without consulting your rheumatologist first, as they may interact with your lupus medications. With proper treatment of underlying lupus symptoms and gentle hair care, many people see improvement in their hair growth over time.
