Hi Stacy! I believe it’s correct to say that almost every body who tests positive for this has lupus, but not everyone with lupus gets a positive result (someone please correct me if I’m wrong!). Do you have other symptoms of lupus? Many, many of us are on plaquenil. It’s the most prescribed and the most thoroughly studied of lupus medications.

Hydroxychloroquine is commonly prescribed for systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE). It works by slowing down the autoimmune attack and reducing inflammation that can damage your body's tissues. Many people with lupus take this medication as part of their treatment plan.

While it's natural to feel hesitant about starting a new medication, it's important not to delay treatment if your doctor has recommended it. Working closely with your rheumatologist is the best way to manage your lupus effectively. If you do start hydroxychloroquine, be aware of potential allergic reactions, which may include:
• Rash or itching
• Hives
• Nausea
• Changes in heart rhythm

Contact your doctor immediately if you experience any concerning symptoms. They can help adjust your treatment plan if needed. Remember that your doctor will monitor your response to the medication and can make changes to ensure you're getting the most benefit with minimal side effects.
