Suggestions as to a good one. I worry all the time and this is leading to depression. I am a person of faith but this is overwhelming my faith. I don’t know what to do

Hi @A MyLupusTeam Member I have been on various antidepressents for many years for various reasons. Trying many different medications with many different side effects. I have been taking cymbalta now for about 10 years or more. I have to say it has done the most for me with the least if any side effects. I'm hoping you will find something that works well for you.

It's completely understandable to feel overwhelmed when dealing with anxiety and depression alongside lupus. Common symptoms of anxiety include nervousness, feeling a sense of doom, heart palpitations, trouble sleeping, and difficulty focusing. These feelings are valid, and you're not alone in experiencing them.

The most important step is to speak with your rheumatologist about these feelings, as they can help determine the safest treatment plan for you. This is especially crucial because antidepressants can interact with lupus medications like hydroxychloroquine (HCQ). There are different types of antidepressants that work in various ways. The most commonly prescribed ones include:

• SSRIs (like Celexa, Lexapro, Prozac, Paxil, and Zoloft)
• SNRIs (like Effexor and Cymbalta)
• Bupropion (Wellbutrin)

Never stop taking any antidepressant suddenly without medical supervision, as this can cause severe side effects. Your doctor can help you find the right medication and dosage that works best with your lupus treatment plan while minimizing anxiety symptoms.

@A MyLupusTeam Member Yes I agree that the Cymbalta is good cause I have been on it as well but I was prescribed it for pain. But I have no issues with depression. Sometimes when I am anxious I take Magnesium it helps with that.

It really a matter of if you are taking for straight depression or pain, sleep etc. cymbals helps pain but so does amitripyline. Viibryd works on two different parts of the brain which has been the only one for a long time. I hope this helps. What I know is that it’s mostly trial and error to see what agrees with your particular body. Everyone is so different.
