Members rallied around the question of how to cope when loved ones don't understand lupus fatigue, with many sharing that they've simply stopped trying to explain and focus on taking care of themselves first. Several members described the fatigue as 'hitting a wall' or feeling like a battery dying, and offered practical tips like replenishing electrolytes, keeping meals simple, and setting strict time limits on activity to avoid flares. A recurring theme was the emotional exhaustion of being dismissed by both family and doctors, met with strong community encouragement to advocate for yourself and seek better care.

Explaining lupus fatigue is difficult. No one gets it until they experience it themselves. I tell people that it feels like I am suddenly fading. My brain and body just want to shutdown like my battery needs recharging. Some get the general idea some don't. It's not worth repeating yourself to those who don't. It only causes us stress.

It's hard, in my case, the people around me had to get educated about lupus. Then they got it. I learned to look out for me, we don't have time to wait for them to get it. Make sure you are good first and then keep trying to educate your friends and family about what's going on.

I describe it as “hitting a wall.” I just suddenly can’t function anymore.

My family understand lupus bcause we've had four people to die with lupus in their thirtys. Just ignore the people that don't understand, I do. I had a cousin that told me not to own lupus because I don't look sick, I may not look sick but I feel the pain.

Yes! Lupus is a whole other level of a beast. People who don’t have it, don’t understand at all. And I wouldn’t wish it on anyone.
