I live in Washington state, and my PCP told me that I have lupus, but she’s a new doctor, and she said that she has nothing about lupus, so she said there is nothing she could prescribe me to help me and referred me to a rheumatologist. I started looking around for a rheumatologist right away. This is back in June or July, and the quickest I could get in to get seen was the end of September( yesterday, to be exact. ) Apparently, rheumatologists are a few and far between around here because I… read more

Yes, telehealth appointments are becoming increasingly common for lupus care and can be an excellent solution for your situation. Many rheumatologists now offer virtual visits, which can be especially helpful for initial consultations and follow-up care. Telemedicine makes it much easier to have frequent touchpoints with doctors, particularly when dealing with ongoing symptoms. To find a rheumatologist who offers telehealth services, you can:

• Search the American College of Rheumatology database
• Contact your local Lupus Foundation of America chapter for recommendations
• Ask your insurance provider for a list of in-network doctors who offer telehealth
• Consider using your current doctor's patient portal to request telehealth options

While waiting for your appointment, document your symptoms and any changes in your condition to make the most of your virtual visit when you get one.

I am so sorry that happened to you. They should have allowed you to keep your appointment. See if you can get back in on a cancellation and explain that you need an appointment after 8:00 am. Try reaching out to your insurance. Sometimes they can help you find someone else that you weren't aware of. I hope that another office will give you an appointment ASAP.
