Odd ive brought up fatigue and weakness with my rheumatologist recently and she didn’t say it was anything. Then i went to my pcp crying literally over how bad it was he was not sure what to do other than check vitamin b levels. Still nothing i was told to deal with it. And people wonder why depression hit lupus patients

Look for a new rheumatologist
Go to American College of Rheumatology and see if there is someone there

Sadly rheumatologist especially in my area are are rare find. I believe the problem is they’re so overworked that to many we’ve become numbers. It’s a sad truth. I’m about ready to discontinue treatment and just do my best on my own.

Question: Are fatigue and sleepiness normal side effects when taking hydroxychloroquine, especially if they seem worse than before starting treatment?

Yes, fatigue and muscle weakness are known side effects of hydroxychloroquine. These symptoms are considered serious side effects and should be discussed with your healthcare provider, especially if they are significantly impacting your daily life. It's important to speak with your doctor about these symptoms rather than stopping the medication on your own, as discontinuing hydroxychloroquine suddenly can cause lupus symptoms to flare up. Your healthcare provider can assess your symptoms and determine if adjustments to your treatment plan are needed.

Common symptoms that may worsen if medication is stopped include:
• Joint pain and swelling
• Extreme tiredness
• Rashes
• Fever
