@KateBaker--That's funny! My brother said the same thing to me a few years ago. It's great we can have a laugh about our disease sometimes, isn't it?😃

Willow, my doctor once said to me, "Kate, you are like that game Whack-a-mole." Just when we deal with one thing another comes up." It made me laugh so hard even though it's so tough to keep dealing with more issues. One day at a time is what I tell myself. Take care!

Willow, if this showed up in just one blood test, you may want to ask your doctor about whether it should be repeated. Sudden, unexpected lab changes can result from a lab error.

If it's confirmed, rest assured that lupus nephritis is manageable, and I've lived with it for 35 years, like others on MLT. About half of us lupies deal with kidney disease. I understand the discouragement of coping with one thing after another, but we are far more resilient and braver than we think. And we are here to support you!😘

How can you manage stage 3a kidney disease with lupus?

Finding out about kidney involvement can feel overwhelming, especially when it seems like one thing after another. Many MyLupusTeam members understand this frustration.

Stage 3 kidney disease means your kidneys are functioning at a reduced level, but there's important good news: treatment can slow the disease's progression and limit further damage. The key is working closely with your healthcare team and sticking to your treatment plan.

Here's what typically helps protect your kidneys:

• Taking medications as prescribed by your rheumatologist
• Managing blood pressure carefully
• Getting regular checkups and monitoring
• Following a kidney-friendly diet
• Staying physically active when possible
• Avoiding smoking

Your doctor will likely monitor you more closely now with regular blood and urine tests to track how your kidneys are doing. Up to 50 percent of people with lupus develop kidney involvement, so you're not alone in this.

While it's understandable to feel discouraged, many people successfully manage lupus nephritis and prevent further kidney damage with proper treatment. Make sure you understand all your doctor's instructions, and don't hesitate to ask questions if anything isn't clear.
