This could be due to gum disease, and flossing can be very helpful, as @A MyLupusTeam Member says. I would see your dentist if it persists.
If you're noticing easy bruising or bleeding elsewhere or the bleeding is profuse, please see your rheumatologist. Our platelets can be affected by lupus, causing bleeding, too.
By the way, how did your tooth extraction go, BG?

What can help with bleeding gums when you have lupus?
Bleeding gums can be related to lupus-associated gum inflammation. Regular dental visits are really important for keeping your mouth healthy and catching issues early.
Here are some steps that can help:
* Use a soft-bristle toothbrush and nonabrasive toothpaste with fluoride to clean your teeth gently
* Maintain good oral hygiene with regular brushing and dental checkups
* Consider using toothpaste and mouthwash specifically made for mouth issues
* Try saltwater rinses - dissolve half a teaspoon of salt in warm water, swish for up to 10 seconds, then spit out
If your gums are inflamed, your healthcare provider might suggest medicated mouthwash to reduce bacteria and inflammation, or topical numbing gels to reduce discomfort.
It's important to talk with both your dentist and rheumatologist about your bleeding gums. Your dentist can examine you for signs of gum disease or tooth decay, while your rheumatologist can help determine if lupus inflammation is contributing to the problem.
