I have the butterfly rash. Is that what you have? My dermatologist prescribes a cream. It doesn’t help the redness. But it helps the burning feeling.

What can help with burning facial skin in lupus?

Many MyLupusTeam members experience this burning sensation in their face, often describing it as feeling like fire under the skin. This can happen with or without visible redness or rash, and it's a common symptom related to inflammation from lupus.

For immediate relief, try these cooling measures:

* Wet your skin with a damp, cool cloth or use a spray bottle with cool water
* Take cooler showers or baths instead of hot ones
* Stay hydrated by drinking plenty of water
* Avoid triggers like hot showers, caffeine, alcohol, and spicy foods
* Limit sun exposure and stay out of direct sunlight

A MyLupusTeam member shared that cooling their skin with water helps manage the burning sensation. Another found that avoiding hot showers reduced their symptoms.

If this is a new symptom or happening frequently, it's important to talk with your rheumatologist. The burning sensation might indicate that your current treatment isn't fully controlling your lupus, or you could be approaching a flare. Your doctor can adjust your medications or suggest additional treatments to help manage the inflammation causing this uncomfortable symptom.

My skin is also tender and sensitive. Especially my scalp. If I itch my head it feels like I’m itching my brain!

I apologize I am just seeing this post. I would highly recommend you go see a dermatologist. I do not have burning sensation but my skin is itchy ALOT. I pray you feel better soon. Maybe try an ice pack in the meanwhile.
