How do anxiety and OCD symptoms relate to lupus?

Anxiety is very common among people living with lupus. Studies show that up to 37 percent of people with lupus experience major anxiety, and about 72 percent of MyLupusTeam members report commonly feeling anxious.

Living with lupus can contribute to anxiety in several ways:

- The stress of the diagnosis itself and managing treatment
- Dealing with unpredictable symptoms and flare-ups
- Uncertainty about disease progression
- Physical limitations affecting daily activities
- Feeling isolated due to time spent at medical appointments or reduced mobility
- Chemical and hormonal changes in the body

Anxiety can also create a cycle with other lupus symptoms. For example, anxiety is associated with insomnia and sleep difficulties, and lack of sleep can then worsen anxiety feelings.

While OCD specifically isn't mentioned as commonly as general anxiety, the chronic stress and worry that come with managing lupus can intensify anxious thoughts and behaviors. Some MyLupusTeam members describe spending excessive amounts of time worrying about their condition.

It's important to address these mental health symptoms with your healthcare team. Treating anxiety with medication, therapy, or both can actually help improve physical symptoms and your overall quality of life with lupus.

One more thing, my psych also recommends cbd and thc edibles for me during times of very high anxiety to reduce stress and help with pain and inflammation. Its quite specific even down to the very strain of cannabis he gives me specifically. But that only when I need it because it can cause stomach issues. Very helpful that and the consistency of the Luvox.

I'm on two different meds for anxiety. I've had the same psychiatrist for 16 years. Chronic pain can cause anxiety and depression. It's not a character flaw. The right meds can help the mental side of things.

I have been having anxiety lately because I haven't heard from the liver doctor to set up an appointment to find out if my liver has fatty tissue of if it is cirrhosis. I haven't heard from AbbVie to let me know if they are going help me with the cost of my medicine. I hope I get a call from the liver doctor this next week to make an appointment so I know what my liver is doing, A letter from AbbVie this next week so I know what it will cost for my medicine. I really appreciate this site. Hope you are all having a wonderful day.

I have anxiety and depression. I really pray and ask God to help me. Because I God has not given me a spirit of fear but of power love and a sound mind.
