Sudden excessive sweating is actually something many people with lupus experience, and it can be really frustrating — especially when deodorant just isn't cutting it!

There are a few possible reasons this might be happening:

- Lupus activity — Lupus can trigger excessive sweating, sometimes as a sign that a flare may be coming
- Medications — Some lupus medications can cause increased sweating as a side effect
- Hormonal changes — Shifts in hormones can suddenly kick off excessive sweating
- Lupus nephritis — Kidney involvement from lupus can sometimes contribute to sweating episodes
- Infections — People with lupus can be more prone to secondary infections, which can cause sweating Since this started suddenly just a few weeks ago, it's worth mentioning to your doctor, especially if anything else has changed recently — like a new medication or other new symptoms. They can help figure out if it's related to lupus activity or something else going on.

In the meantime, keeping lupus well-controlled by sticking to your treatment plan is one of the best ways to manage excessive sweating overall.

I was sweating excessively and turning stuff blue. My rheumatologist (who retired last year) put me on a calcium channel blocker, and the sweating subsided, but then I started swelling. I'm fine with the sweating. The herbal that caused the bluing of my sweat was quinine. Any supplements with shark cartilage in them do the same thing to me. I've stained bathtubs and toilet seats blue permanently. So, in my book, clear sweat is good, but then I do things to make me sweat. If you are sweating with minimal activity, definitely mention it to your doctor. Just weigh the pros and cons of any medicine they may prescribe for it.
