I had a wisdom tooth on the bottom left that decided to come up in November and I’m 60 that is crazy that I’ve been dealing with an infection before and after the extraction of the wisdom tooth on January 2. I still have an infection which I’m on antibiotics for but my problem also is I am numb still from my bottom lip to halfway down my jaw line. Has anyone experienced numbness this long? It has been 23 days now and It’s really starting to worry me. I was supposed to go see my rheumatologist… read more

Please see my answer to your other post, Maersk. What did your dentist say about the prolonged numbness?

I understand how concerning prolonged numbness must be, especially when you're already dealing with so much. Unfortunately, the search results don't contain specific information about numbness duration after dental extractions or wisdom tooth removal.

However, numbness lasting this long after a tooth extraction definitely warrants medical attention. It's good that you have an appointment with your oral surgeon on the 28th - they'll be able to evaluate whether nerve involvement occurred during the extraction and what recovery timeline to expect.

In the meantime, if you experience any of these symptoms along with the numbness, seek emergency care right away:

* Weakness or inability to move
* Slurred speech
* Vision changes
* Confusion
* Loss of consciousness

Your situation is complicated by the ongoing infection and missing your lupus infusions since October. The constant flare-up and extreme fatigue you're experiencing make sense given you haven't been able to continue your treatment plan.

Stay in close contact with both your oral surgeon and rheumatologist. Once the infection clears and the dental issue is resolved, you should be able to restart your lupus treatment, which will hopefully help with the fatigue and flare symptoms.

Hang in there - you're doing the right things by following up with your doctors.
