Does lupus cause severe acne?

While the search results don't specifically mention severe acne as a direct symptom of lupus, they do describe various skin issues that people with lupus commonly experience. About 75 percent of people with lupus report skin symptoms, but these typically include:

It's worth noting that some lupus medications, particularly corticosteroids, can sometimes cause acne-like breakouts as a side effect. If you're experiencing severe acne, it's important to discuss this with your rheumatologist or dermatologist. They can help determine whether it's related to lupus, your medications, or another cause, and develop an appropriate treatment plan for you.
