It's difficult when you have Lupus to have surgery because your immune system doesn't help you, I'm afraid.😔

I have had several surgeries since mySLE diagnosis and only once I had a problem; therefore, I have no issues with having surgery. Go for it. What have you got to lose? You will be okay. I will be praying for you❣️

How long does it take to heal from hand surgery for rhizarthrosis when you have lupus?

Healing time can vary, but it's true that lupus may affect your recovery. Some MyLupusTeam members report longer healing times with surgeries and procedures. After hand surgery, you'll likely need physical therapy to regain strength and range of motion in your hand.

The key is working closely with both your surgeon and rheumatologist before the procedure. If you're experiencing a lupus flare, it's best to wait until it's under control to avoid complications. Surgery itself can also trigger a flare, so having a plan in place with your rheumatologist is important.

You may need to adjust your lupus medications before surgery, especially corticosteroids and immunosuppressants. Your rheumatologist can help you taper off or adjust doses as needed.

Make sure your surgical team knows about your lupus, all medications you take, and any sensitivities. This helps them prepare for lupus-related risks and support your recovery properly.
