I am not sure how things work in Ontario, but you can call your insurance company or search your local teaching hospital's website. Sometimes hospitals have advocates that will perform the search for you.

How can you find a trustworthy doctor after receiving conflicting opinions about your lupus diagnosis?

Finding a rheumatologist you can trust is crucial, especially when dealing with conflicting diagnoses. Late-onset lupus can be particularly challenging to diagnose because symptoms may overlap with other age-related health issues, which can lead to confusion even among specialists.

Here are some practical steps to find a good doctor:

* Ask for recommendations from others in your area who have lupus
* Reach out to your local chapter of the Lupus Foundation of America for referrals
* Search the American College of Rheumatology database for qualified rheumatologists
* Consider getting a second or third opinion if you feel your concerns are being dismissed

When you find potential doctors, look for someone you feel comfortable asking anything and who takes time to address your concerns. This should be a long-term relationship built on trust and open communication.

Before appointments, prepare by writing down your questions and symptoms. Bring a family member or friend as a witness to what's discussed. If your medical group offers an app or patient portal, use it to message your doctor in writing - this creates a time-stamped paper trail and helps ensure clear communication.

Don't settle for care that doesn't address your needs. You deserve a doctor who listens and takes your symptoms seriously.
