I started taking in back in August and get my blood draw every three months because of it. This time my blood counts were all off. I see my Rehumy tomorrow but this is really freaking me out.

Has anyone experienced worsening blood test results after starting Plaquenil?

It's understandable to feel anxious about unexpected blood test changes. While Plaquenil (hydroxychloroquine) is generally well-tolerated, everyone responds differently to medications.

Blood count changes aren't commonly listed among the typical side effects of hydroxychloroquine, which more often include stomach upset, nausea, headache, or skin reactions. However, that doesn't mean your medication isn't playing a role.

Several MyLupusTeam members have shared experiences with unexpected changes while on Plaquenil. One member noted menstrual cycle changes after starting the medication, even though it's not a known side effect. This shows that individual responses can vary.

It's really important that you're seeing your rheumatologist tomorrow. They can:
* Review your specific blood work results
* Determine if the changes are related to Plaquenil or lupus activity
* Adjust your treatment plan if needed
* Rule out other potential causes

Try not to panic before your appointment. Sometimes blood counts fluctuate due to lupus disease activity itself rather than the medication. Your doctor will help you understand what's happening and what steps to take next.
