I have had headaches almost everyday for 5-6 mo and fever off & on. I feel like my head will explode and haven’t gotten any relief. Yes crying staying in bed. I’m having trouble getting a neurologist, I live in a rural area. My referral is somewhere in Lala land or the cloud.
It is frustrating, overwhelming and all the while we suffer with these headaches. Hang in there you are not alone. I pray a lot.

I never really had chronic migraines until a few years into my lupus journey. It got really bad to the point I was stuck in bed even more because of it. Crying and all. My house was like a dark dungeon because I could not handle light or noise at all. I had tried a few different meds for it and it did nothing for me. Then someone suggested botox and I laughed it off for a while but then after like a year of research I saws how many people it helped and my neurologist had suggested it so I did it and OMG LIFE CHANGING! Truly! While medi-cal covers it they recently changed the rules and now you have to meet with someone before every apt and now they dont cover masseter injections anymore which really sucks as I also suffer from tmj and had just started getting those injections as well.

Are daily headaches related to lupus, and can Botox help treat them?

Yes, headaches are common with lupus. About 54 percent of people with lupus experience headaches, with migraine being the most frequently reported type. While headaches aren't considered a primary symptom of lupus, they can be painful and debilitating.

Several factors can contribute to headaches in lupus:

* Migraine attacks (affecting about 20 percent of people with lupus)
* Dehydration
* Anemia from bone marrow problems, kidney issues, or medication side effects
* Stress, lack of sleep, or skipped meals
* Certain medications

Regarding Botox for treatment: Botox (onabotulinumtoxinA) is FDA-approved for chronic migraine in adults who experience migraine-related headaches lasting at least four hours more than 15 days per month. It works by blocking nerve endings that send pain signals to the brain.

A MyLupusTeam member shared: "I've tried it and it worked really well."

However, Botox is specifically for chronic migraine, not all types of daily headaches. Treatment involves 31 injections over seven areas of the head, face, and neck, administered by neurologists or headache specialists.

Important: Always discuss any migraine treatment with your rheumatologist first to ensure it works well with your lupus treatment regimen and doesn't trigger a flare.
