Members enthusiastically supported the idea of starting hobby groups for crafters, with many eager to join groups focused on crocheting, painting, scrapbooking, and jewelry making. Several members shared personal stories of how crafting, especially crocheting, has become a stress relief and emotional outlet, even as chronic pain, vision problems, and limited mobility make it harder to keep up. A recurring theme was the deep sense of accomplishment and joy that comes from finishing a project, and the importance of holding onto creative hobbies even when life with illness feels like a series of losses.

I would sign up for sure... my crocheting is my stress/flare outlet. Sometimes its hard to concentrate but I plow through it. My daughter in law is one of my big time supporter. She is always challenging me to try harder patterns... I just finished a baby boy blanket for her to give to her best friend.. that is the picture of it

What a wonderful idea! Starting a crafting group for people with lupus could be incredibly beneficial.

Many MyLupusTeam members already use creative activities as stress-relief strategies. Crafts like knitting, crocheting, adult coloring books, and journaling help keep minds and hands busy while providing a calming focus away from lupus symptoms and worries.

Here's why crafting groups work well:

- They provide a mental break from pain and stress
- Creative projects give your mind something positive to focus on
- You can connect with others who understand living with lupus
- Activities can be adapted to your energy levels and abilities

Members have shared how helpful these activities are. One mentioned using adult coloring books and listening to music, while another finds knitting and crocheting therapeutic. Journaling is also popular for getting thoughts out on paper.

You could explore starting an informal crafting meetup with other members, either virtually or in person if there's local interest. This would create a supportive space where you can be creative together while sharing experiences.

What type of crafting appeals to you most? Starting with your favorite activity might help you connect with others who share that interest.

@A MyLupusTeam Member That’s an awesome idea! I love painting, it’s relaxing and therapeutic. I’m not a pro by any means, but during the pandemic I developed an interest in it and just started to experiment. This painting is probably on a kindergarten level, but being cooped up at home during the pandemic, made me think of birds and their freedom to fly wherever and whenever they want! Love your idea 🎨💜🎨
