That sounds really uncomfortable β dealing with toe and foot pain with lupus is more common than many people realize. About 77% of people with lupus experience foot pain at some point, and it can affect any part of the foot, including the toes.
The stretching sensation and pain in your baby toes could be related to a few lupus-connected causes:
- Arthritis β Lupus-related arthritis commonly affects the small joints in the feet, which can cause pain, swelling, and unusual positioning of the toes
- Circulation issues β Lupus can affect blood flow to the feet, which may cause strange sensations, coldness, or discomfort, especially when lying down
- Raynaud's phenomenon β A lupus comorbidity that can cause numbness, tingling, and discomfort in the toes It's really important to bring this up with your doctor or rheumatologist as soon as possible. They may also refer you to a podiatrist (a foot specialist) who can take a closer look at what's happening with those toes specifically.
In the meantime, keeping your feet elevated for 20β30 minutes can help with any swelling or discomfort while you wait for your appointment.
