I get upset when I'm trying to take my shower, wash my hair, or even get dressed because of weakness taking over and making these tasks so hard.
I have overlapping Myocitis, so my muscles feel like noodles. I love a nice hot bath, but getting out, toweled off, and dressed is like trying to run a marathon. It's exhausting. I have a light robe I throw on now, so I can sit and recover before trying to get dressed and messing with my hair. I try to break activities up into small pieces with breaks worked in between the pieces. It's just the best I can do right now!
Hi GiselleT,
Thanks for your support about everyday tasks being hard. I do sometimes feel guilty for not being able to do things like I used to, especially since most everything falls on my retired husband now. He never complains, though, it's just that my 2 younger sisters who live far from me and a few of his family members think I'm just faking my pain and fatigue so I don't have to do anything anymore. That really hurts! 💔And makes me feel so bad.
I understand how you feel. I have trouble doing everything. Showering is a monumental task. I just got my hair cut, so it would be easier to wash. Life is harder for us now, so we just do whatever we can do and don't feel guilty about what doesn't get done. You did your best. I wish you well.
Yes, it's very frustrating at times, Sharon — especially during flares. If you're feeling this weak all the time, please talk to your rheumatologist and consider a second opinion. I see you're about 100 miles away from Univ. of Pittsburgh, which has an excellent rheumatology department.
If one is on long-term steroids, that can worsen muscle weakness, and it's good to discuss alternatives with your doctor. I hope you get relief soon!😘
You are not alone, my friend. It's a daily battle. Yet if we do 1% better than yesterday, we have indeed made some progress. Be well, warrior.
