I am asking because my infusion nurse was grilling me today about disability and why wasn't I on it? I replied, "because their are many more people who need it more than me." She then said I should file, as all of my conditions would qualify me and that I should not be so prideful about it. I was taken aback and not sure how to take that

It took me 3 years to get disability because I was in my 30's. I finally hired a disability attorney (many will do it on a contingency basis) and come to find out, Social Security was denying me because I had so many medical records that they didn't want to mess with them. My attorney went to the Social Security Office and found 16 boxes of medical records stuffed in a closet. I had a court date within the month. After the Federal Disability Judge read through my records, he wouldn't even let the SS attorney talk. He asked me to tell him my story. I did and he not only granted disability but he gave me retro pay for the 3 years it took to get it. Persistence pays off. Don't give up filing no matter what.
I think you should be able to get disability right away cuz you don't know from day to day how you're going to feel.
I worked 35 years for University of Florida. My last two years was rough but I made it. My supervisor and co-workers knew my condition and were very supportive. I was 57 when I retired and was only going to get retirement benefits. I retired the end of June 2019 and applied for disability in July. I did all the paperwork except what the doctors had to fill out. I was approved for disability in December 2019 and started receiving SSA disability benefits in January 2020. I'm grateful to God that I didn't have to get a lawyer. All things work together for those who love God!
