I hear you on those issues. Never had gut issues before I started taking Hydroxychloroquine,
You are definitely not alone! Digestive issues are really common with lupus, and many MyLupusTeam members share similar experiences. One member described having so much gas after eating that they couldn't stop burping or passing gas for a long period of time. Another simply said, "I just can't stop burping β I don't know Show Full Answer
Typically, when I drive, I get the burps. I've had horrible reflux/GERD in the past and had to have esophageal surgery to prevent aspiration during my sleep. The surgeon noted a Sclerosis overlap disorder which causes poor motility in my esophagus (I can't swallow well without drinking something as I eat). Sjogrens may also be adding to these issues, because I have very little moisture in my mouth. Those spit/genetic tests take me a good hour to fill a small tube with spit. I've been told my poor digestion and GI sluggishness is all related to a Sclerosis and Myocitis overlap disorder. When I'm sitting upright, leaning a bit forward over the steering wheel to drive, just the slight bending near my waist puts pressure on my diaphragm, and the burping starts. And, the stress of driving, sucking on mints, etc. probably force more air down into my stomach to then be forced right back out as I lean a bit forward to drive. No matter how I adjust my car seat, this burping persists just in this situation, especially on long drives.
Yes!!!! I swear I was asking myself this question today!!! I don't understand and my diet has been strictly gluten free for over 6 years, but recently this has become a real issue π
Thank you.
