Internal trembling — that feeling of shaking on the inside that others can't always see — is something many people with lupus experience. So while it may feel alarming, you're definitely not alone in this.

A MyLupusTeam member described it well: "I mostly feel it in my upper body when waking up or resting. It's a vibration-type shaking, not like shaky hands that someone else could see." There are a few reasons this can happen with lupus:

- Lupus itself — Autoantibodies can attack nerve cells in the brain that control movement, especially during a flare
- Neuropsychiatric lupus (NPSLE) — When lupus affects the nervous system, tremors and internal vibrations can be a symptom
- Medications — Corticosteroids, cyclosporine, hydroxychloroquine, and mycophenolate mofetil can all cause shaking as a side effect
- Fatigue or stress — Many members notice it gets worse when they're run-down or in a flare

It's worth mentioning this to your doctor, especially if it's new, worsening, or interfering with daily life. They can help figure out the cause and adjust your care plan if needed.
