Members rallied around a community member facing severe anxiety attacks and an upcoming bone marrow biopsy, with many sharing that anxiety is a common and understandable part of living with a chronic illness like lupus. Several members described practical strategies that have helped them manage anxiety, including breathwork coaching, deep breathing, progressive muscle relaxation, watching comedies, and stress management exercises to prevent flares. A recurring theme was the power of community support, with many offering prayers and encouragement and reminding each other that no one has to face these challenges alone.

Yes, especially when I first got diagnosed and had weird symptoms and flares I felt scared and I would have them frequently. I believe it’s normal for anyone having a serious and chronic disease.

Anxiety attacks are really tough, and it makes complete sense that you're feeling this way β€” especially with a bone marrow biopsy coming up on Wednesday. You are absolutely not alone in this.

Many MyLupusTeam members experience anxiety, and it's very common with lupus. The uncertainty and stress of living with a chronic condition, plus facing medical procedures, can make anxiety feel overwhelming.

Here are some things that may help you get through the next few days:

- Deep breathing or meditation β€” even a few slow, deep breaths can calm your nervous system
- Distraction β€” music, a show, or chatting with someone you trust
- Reach out to your care team β€” let them know you're struggling before Wednesday; they may be able to offer extra support or anti-anxiety options for the procedure
- Bring someone with you on Wednesday if possible β€” having a familiar face nearby really helps

Common anxiety symptoms to watch for include heart palpitations, rapid breathing, trouble sleeping, and a sense of doom. If any symptoms feel severe or you're unsure, don't hesitate to seek medical attention.

You're handling a lot right now β€” be gentle with yourself. πŸ’™

I experience anxiety and it gets bad, however, since last year I've been working with breath work coaches; and it gets tough but I remember breathe and breathe. It's not the easiest in an attack mode, but it is something I highly recommend you look into. Lupus can intensify anxiety and it's not fun!
