Sweet-smelling urine and a general sweet body odor are worth paying attention to, especially with lupus. This combination can sometimes signal that blood sugar levels are running too high, which can be a concern for people with lupus since it can interfere with how the body uses glucose. In more urgent cases, sweet-smelling urine paired with a fruity body odor can be a sign of a serious condition that needs immediate medical attention. Seek emergency care right away if you're also experiencing any of these symptoms:

- Extreme thirst
- Urinating much more frequently than usual
- Extreme fatigue that doesn't improve with rest
- Abdominal pain or vomiting
- Fruity-smelling breath
- Confusion
- Difficulty breathing

If you're not experiencing those symptoms, it's still really important to contact your doctor soon. They can run bloodwork to check your blood sugar and kidney function, and help figure out what's going on. Don't wait on this one — the sooner it's checked out, the better.
