Members welcomed the AHA's new plant-based dietary guidelines and discussed how to apply them given complex health conditions like ileostomy, Crohn's disease, and kidney disease. Several members shared practical tips, including cooking vegetables until soft, pureeing foods, staying well hydrated, and gradually increasing fiber rather than making sudden changes. A recurring theme was the importance of personalizing dietary choices to your own health situation and consulting a doctor or specialist, especially when managing multiple conditions at once.

How interesting that the American Heart Association actively recommends a plant-based diet, specifically to control inflammation! I hadn't seen this before. Thank you @A MyLupusTeam Member. This will help with the hot dog cravings 😁

@TeresaAimer--Since you have the ileostomy, you don't have the colon absorbing water, so it makes sense that you have diarrhea. You should follow the ileostomy diet, and you will likely tolerate cooked veggies much better than raw ones, which I would avoid with an ileostomy.

FYI, drinking plenty of water helps prevent constipation even with high-fiber intake.
