I drink plain green tea and fruit flavored green teas every day. It helps flush my kidneys and has a few other benefits, such as containing antioxidants.

That's a great question for anyone managing lupus nephritis! While specific herbal teas aren't widely studied for lupus nephritis, there are some general beverage guidelines that can help protect kidney health.

Unsweetened iced tea is often recommended as a kidney-friendly drink. It avoids the high sugar content of sodas and fruit juices, which can worsen inflammation and put extra strain on the kidneys.

A few things to watch out for with any tea or beverage:

- Avoid added sugars — these can increase inflammation and raise cardiometabolic risks
- Check for phosphorus additives — look for "phos-" in ingredient lists and avoid those products
- Be cautious with herbal supplements — some, like echinacea, have been shown to increase inflammation in people with lupus
- Watch fluid intake — if lupus nephritis is active, the kidneys may filter water more slowly, so fluid restriction may be needed It's really important to check with your doctor or a dietitian before adding any herbal teas regularly, as some herbs can interfere with medications or worsen lupus symptoms. Your care team can give personalized guidance based on your current kidney function.

I drink green tea and a tea that has turmeric and ginger. I get nauseated a lot. The ginger helps that.

Green tea is known to help with providing extra blood flow to your kidneys. it is a diuretic. Just discuss with your doctor. I told my Rheumatologist I was drinking green tea and red (Roobianois) and she warned me about dizziness but was OK with it as my blood pressure was elevated and I don't take meds for it and it brought my b/p down nicely. Its also helpful in lowering blood surgar too. I like the red tea just a couple sips at night as it helps with nerves and helps me to relax (if constipated it will make you go. God bless.
