I’m on hydroxychloroquine only , Gp not concerned but will repeat bloods in 5weeks and check B12 and a blood film. Any advice on what else I should be asking Gp? I’m not seeing rheumatologist until October

Having a low white cell count (WCC) with lupus isn't unusual — lupus itself can affect blood cell levels, and it's actually one of the known ways lupus can show up in blood results. Feeling well despite a low WCC is a good sign, and your GP's plan to monitor it sounds reasonable.

Having a low white cell count (WCC) with lupus isn't unusual — lupus itself can affect blood cell levels, and it's actually one of the known ways lupus can show up in blood results. Feeling well despite a low WCC is a good sign, and your GP's plan to monitor it sounds reasonable.

Other MyLupusTeam members have reported similar experiences with abnormal blood counts while otherwise feeling okay. Here are some questions worth raising with your GP at the next appointment:

- Should my rheumatologist be informed sooner? A low WCC in lupus may be worth flagging before October, especially if it drops further.
- What WCC level would prompt earlier action or referral? It helps to know the threshold.
- Could hydroxychloroquine be contributing? While it's generally well-tolerated, it's worth discussing.
- What symptoms should prompt an earlier visit? Things like fever, unusual fatigue, or infections could be relevant.
- Will lupus activity be assessed alongside the repeat bloods?

It's great that your GP is being proactive with the repeat bloods and B12 check. Keep a note of any new symptoms between now and then, even small ones — that information can be really useful for both your GP and rheumatologist.
