Swishing Mylanta helps too. It is especially important to swish before bedtime for better healing.

Mouth sores with lupus don't have a fixed timeline — they can vary quite a bit from person to person. They often show up during flares and may ease up as the flare settles down, but they can also linger even when lupus is otherwise quiet.

Mouth sores with lupus don't have a fixed timeline — they can vary quite a bit from person to person. They often show up during flares and may ease up as the flare settles down, but they can also linger even when lupus is otherwise quiet.

The good news is there are things that can help in the meantime:

- Rinse with a mild saltwater solution (½ tsp salt in warm water, swish for 10 seconds)
- Use an alcohol-free mouthwash
- Try a numbing gel with benzocaine before eating or drinking
- Avoid acidic, spicy, or salty foods that can irritate sores further If the sores aren't improving after a few days, are getting worse, or are making it hard to eat or drink, it's worth reaching out to a rheumatologist. They may recommend a medicated mouthwash or topical steroid to help speed up healing.

Also worth noting — some lupus medications like methotrexate and NSAIDs can contribute to mouth sores, so it's good to flag this with a doctor either way.

I kept getting them and went to my doctor and he told me I had dry mouth syndrome. It started after I started myfortic. He prescribed me a steroid ointment which I use very sparingly. I also use fennel seed very lightly as it lowers the blood sugar. But I have decreased saliva becasue of the myforic, lupus, and the teas I drink. When I was able to take ginger it helped soooo very much. I am praying for you. God bless.
