My pinkies were so stiff I couldn't bend them without severe pain. The stiffness in the pinkies would come/go throughout the day, but the pain and weakness in my hands lasted all day. My hands were so weak, I couldn't do something as simple as picking up a cup with one hand or pushing a door open that wasn't latched
This came out of nowhere. Ive woken up with stiff hands since I was in elementary school, wasnt diagnosed until I was 22 and now at 56, symptoms are getting more random and… read more

What you're experiencing with hand weakness, stiffness, and pain β€” especially in the pinkies β€” is something many MyLupusTeam members can relate to. Hand and finger issues are very common with lupus, and there are a few possible reasons why this happens:

- Joint inflammation β€” Lupus can cause inflammation at the joints and tendons, leading to pain, swelling, and stiffness in the fingers
- Carpal tunnel syndrome β€” Widespread inflammation can put pressure on the median nerve in the wrist, causing pain, numbness, and weakness in the hands
- Tendon involvement β€” Inflammation around tendons (tendinitis) can contribute to stiffness and weakness
- Nerve involvement β€” Lupus can sometimes affect the peripheral nerves, which may cause weakness or unusual sensations in the hands

Given that your symptoms are becoming more frequent and you're also experiencing tendon ruptures, it's really worth bringing this up with your rheumatologist soon. Blood tests and imaging can help pinpoint what's driving these changes so treatment can be adjusted if needed.

You've clearly been managing this with a lot of grace for a long time β€” but "new and strange" symptoms always deserve a closer look! πŸ’™
