Sjögren’s and Lupus: Are They Related? Read Article...

When I flare both Sjogrens and Lupus symptoms hit me like gangbusters. My dermatologist calls them sister disorders. I can be fine one day and not be able to move the next due to fatigue and joint/muscle pain. Celiacs (gluten) can certainly spur both disorders. I had one person tell me I was dead to her if I couldn't come to her favorite brewery for celebrations anymore, because there was nothing there I could eat and drink, and even inquiring about safe food and drink got hostility from those running the place, so we do NOTHING with this person anymore. My husband made it clear my suffering wasn't worth their company! People devoid of empathy aren't your true friends.

I only explain when I'm able to fully articulate to that person. Many times meeting that person where they are can be a challenge. Sometimes you won't be able to fully get your point across. Not everyone has the capacity to receive the message you are sending. Be blessed warrior

I don't think you should feel obligated to explain, but you could simply say that lupus can cause severe fatigue at times and generally low, unpredictable energy. You might suggest that they read and learn more about the disease if they're interested.
