Feeling Isolated and Lupus

Posted on May 25, 2018

Living with lupus can be lonely. Lupus can isolate us by keeping us home, making us miss out on time with friends and family, or preventing us from working full-time. When we're lonely, we feel like we're the only ones going through it, but this is not true.

On MyLupusTeam, the social network and online support group for those living with lupus, members talk about a range of personal experiences and struggles. Feeling lonely is one of the most-discussed subjects.

Here are some question-and-answer threads about feeling lonely:

How many single Lupies feel really lonely sometimes?

Why does having an animal in the house help so much in every way? I rescued a cat, but she also saved me.

Lately, I have felt alone and losing friends it has been stressful. Do you ever feel alone with having this illness?

Here are some conversations about feeling lonely:

I feel very alone at times even when surrounded by people. It's hard to make others understand the pain and discomfort I feel every day.

This is a lonely illness, causing us to be isolated from the world. I can't even get a full work week in without missing time.

I am so isolated and have no family support for the most part. I've been dealing with everything by myself and thought joining MyLupusTeam might help.

The communication, feedback, and prayers have made a huge difference in my life and it can for yours as well! Not feeling well can be so isolating at times. It's comforting to talk with others who understand.
